Description

When the Noblemen and Gentlemen’s Catch Club, founded in 1761, offered valuable prizes for the best new compositions each year, there was serious competition afoot. Here, Cooke sets the epigrammatic couplets of Edward Mulso in 1775 to offer practical advice - whilst at the same time revelling in the opportunity to show off that perfect union of words and music which is so much a feature of the English glee.
