Description

Shakespeare's witches cackle around their cauldron in very eighteenth-century fashion in this, piece - by far the better of two settings of the opening scene of 'Macbeth' to be found in the Canterbury Catch Club collection. The final section - a very dramatic setting of "We'll double, double, toil and trouble..." - is a thoroughly theatrical setting of the text; this is not entirely surprising, given Webbe's close contact with the operatic stage as a respected bass in his own right.
